Throughout 2013 the Museum will be celebrating 200 years of Pride and Prejudice starting with an in-house exhibition which explores the story of the novel, the history of its writing and what it means to visitors to the museum today.
On display will be the letter Jane wrote to her sister Cassandra on first receiving her copy of the book. Jane refers to her novel as ‘my own darling child’. Also featured will be the famous Hugh Thomson illustrations which were first included in an edition of 1894, and first editions of the book.
Pride and Prejudice has been published in editions throughout the world. Included in the exhibition will be editions in a number of foreign languages which are held by the museum. Throughout the year the museum hopes to add editions from all over the world to its collection.
